Description
Whitefly are tiny white moths, with adults they have a wing span of 3mm. They tend to gather on the underside of the leaf, with feeding resulting in a mottled discolouration on the upper surface of the leaf, especially if they are in large numbers. Like aphids, they produce ‘honeydew’ which can create ideal conditions for sooty mould to grow. Whiteflies have a large host range they can affect a range of ornamentals, vegetables and even grass and fern species. They are most active when night and day temperatures fluctuate between 20˚C and 24˚C.
